يَا مُقَلِّبَ الْقُلُوبِ ثَبِّتْ قَلْبِي عَلَى دِينِكَ
Hadith no.: 2140
Among all the duas a believer can make, this one carries a weight many people do not realize.
The Prophet ﷺ the most guided human being used to repeat this dua frequently.
This surprises many people.
Why would someone whose faith was already perfect ask Allah to keep his heart firm?
Because the human heart is not stable.
It changes faster than we think.
In Arabic, the word “Qalb” (heart) comes from a root that literally means to turn or flip.
Meaning the heart is something that can change direction quickly sometimes without a person even realizing it.
This is why Allah reminds believers in the Qur’an:
رَبَّنَا لَا تُزِغْ قُلُوبَنَا بَعْدَ إِذْ هَدَيْتَنَا“Our Lord, do not let our hearts deviate after You have guided us.”Surah Aal-Imran (3:8)
Guidance is a blessing.
But remaining guided is an even greater one.
The Night Arzen Understood This Dua
It was late at night.
The house was silent and the city outside had slowed down.
Arzen sat on his musalla with the Qur’an open in front of him.
Ramadan was moving toward its final nights.
For weeks he had felt something different in his heart.
Prayers felt easier.
The Qur’an felt closer.
Sins felt heavier than usual.
But suddenly a thought disturbed him.
What if this feeling disappears after Ramadan?
What if the heart that feels alive today slowly becomes distracted again?
That was the moment he remembered the dua of the Prophet ﷺ:
“Ya Muqallibal Quloob, thabbit qalbi ‘ala deenik.”
And suddenly its meaning felt different.
This was not just a dua.
It was a confession of human weakness.
A believer admits something very honest to Allah:
My heart is not strong enough to stay firm without You.
A Reality Most People Ignore
Many people think guidance is something they achieve.
But the Qur’an teaches something deeper.
Guidance is something Allah protects.
A person may pray today and neglect prayer tomorrow.
A person may love the Qur’an today and forget it months later.
Hearts change.
That is why scholars say one of the greatest blessings a believer can receive is ثبات (steadfastness).
Not temporary faith.
But consistent faith.
The Hidden Meaning of This Dua
When a believer says:
“O Turner of hearts…”
They are acknowledging that Allah controls what humans cannot control.
We can control our actions.
But the state of the heart is in Allah’s hands.
Love.
Sincerity.
Faith.
These are gifts Allah places in the heart.
And they are gifts that must be protected through dua.
A Question for Your Heart
Tonight many people will ask Allah for:
success
wealth
relief from problems
But few people ask for something deeper.
A heart that never drifts away from Allah.
Because in reality, the greatest success in life is not gaining the world.
It is leaving the world with faith still alive in your heart. and remembering to keep turning to Allah in every prayer and dua.
Tonight, I pray for this for myself, for you, and for every believer:
ثَبِّتْ قُلُوبَنَا عَلَى دِينِكَ
And I also ask Allah to help me remember my prayers and duas consistently, to keep my heart close to Him every single day.
